Detroit Receiving Hospital’s Spiritual Care department offers support and
assistance to patients and visitors coping with illness, trauma or the loss of a
loved one. Our Spiritual Care team understands that regardless of culture or
religious affiliation, it is often necessary to expand the personal support
system during a health crisis. Our team is here to help provide that support.
As part of an integrated health care team focused on healing the entire
person, our professional chaplains are theologically and clinically trained, and
committed to providing spiritual care with compassion and respect for all
patients, as well as their families and friends. We honor the religious,
spiritual and cultural preferences of our patients, with the greatest dignity.
In addition to providing support to Detroit Receiving patients, we work to
partner with the patients’ clergy, in an effort to extend the network of support
for patients and families. These partnerships help ensure a continuity of
support beyond Detroit Receiving’s walls.
We Focus on You
The Spiritual Care team provides spiritual support to patients and families,
consulting in patient rooms or other locations within the hospital. These
consultations, which may include discussion or prayer, are available upon
request and can offer great comfort and guidance.
Services provided by Detroit Receiving’s Spiritual Care team include:
- Spiritual support for patients coping with illness or injury
- Life transition rituals, such as sacraments, last rites and memorial
services
- Spiritual wellness groups for our psychiatric and geriatric patients
- Collaboration with local clergy to enhance patient care and clergy
visitation
- Patient/family referrals to local churches, synagogues and houses of worship
- Collaboration with Detroit Receiving team members to enhance staff awareness
of patients’ spiritual needs
Interfaith Meditation Room
Detroit Receiving’s interfaith
meditation room offers patients and families a quiet space for spiritual
reflection and thoughtful solitude. To respect the needs of all those using the
meditation room, we ask that any conversation be maintained at a low volume. The
room is available 24-hours a day.
