Detroit Receiving’s orthopaedic
team offers definitive treatment for all complex and simple orthopaedic injuries
and conditions. We treat injuries of the spinal cord/column, pelvis and
acetabulum, as well as complex sports and ligament injuries. Our team also has
expertise in late reconstruction for fractured nonunions, treatment of foot and
ankle problems and joint reconstruction.
As part of the
Detroit Medical Center, we are affiliated with the
Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM). RIM’s specialized physical medicine and
rehabilitation physicians consult on our patients to ensure the best
rehabilitation programs for functional recovery. RIM offers a beautiful state-of-the-art
rehabilitation center, on the main campus of the
Detroit Medical Center, as well as several outpatient
centers throughout Metro Detroit, to support maximal recovery of each patient we
treat.

Surgery
Detroit Receiving offers clinical
expertise in many different spine procedures and surgeries, from initial
diagnosis to treatment and recovery.
We understand that for many of our patients, spinal injuries or disorders
can result in limited mobility and chronic pain. Our team works to treat
debilitating conditions of the spine, to help our patients maximize their
quality of life.

Prior to recommendation of
surgery, our team considers conservative, non-surgical or minimally invasive
solutions. We provide various
outpatient procedures, as appropriate, including epidural injections, facet
blocks, facet injections, discograms (diagnostic procedure to determine disc
disease), and kyphoplasty surgery (very minimally invasive procedure to restore
height and treat pain in fractured vertebral bodies).

opportunity for recovery, our experienced team can provide personalized and
expert care. As
Michigan’s first Level I Trauma Center,
Detroit Receiving Hospital features some of the most highly
qualified surgeons in the nation, including Receiving’s chief of orthopaedics,
Dr. Rahul Vaidya. Dr. Vaidya has
expertise in spine surgery and also has experience in spinal cord
research.
Dr. Vaidya leads Detroit
Receiving’s spine surgery program.
Supported by an experienced surgical team, he performs many surgical
procedures after initial diagnosis, including:
- Lumbar
laminectomy/discectomy
- Cervical fusion (anterior and
posterior)
- Lumbar fusion (posterior, and
front/back surgery, also called a “360 degree” surgery)
- Scoliosis surgery - revision, as well as
initial
- Spine tumor

- Spinal stenosis

In addition to surgery after
initial diagnosis, Dr. Vaidya successfully performs “revision surgery” for
cervical or lumbar fusion, as well as scoliosis. Revision surgery is performed when
previous a spine surgery was unsuccessful or is required
again.
